We are so excited to welcome Adalberto Garibay to the team as a digital marketing strategist. Born and raised just shy of Cicero, Adalberto attended the University of Illinois and, with a love of reading and writing, graduated with an English degree. His passion for learning got him interested in digital marketing (and brought him to Clique). Outside of work, Adalberto likes working out, traveling, and hanging out with his dog. Here’s a snippet of a conversation I had with him during his first week.
How did you get interested in digital marketing?
“I graduated with a degree in English, but I didn’t see myself in a traditional teacher role. I liked reading and writing: consuming information. I took on a marketing role, and loved it, specifically the digital marketing aspect of it. It’s a challenge. It’s always changing. There are new things to learn every day, and I like being on my toes.”
And what brought you to Clique?
“I wanted to join a group of people who really liked what they were doing and wanted to get better. People are passionate here.”
So, outside of work, what does your ideal weekend look like?
“Definitely hanging with my dog. I have an Australian cattle dog mix named Rocky, and he just turned one.”
Oh my goodness. Adorable.
“Yeah, he’s a big baby. I was fighting with him just to eat his food the other day. A big baby. I also have a cat named Zaya, and at first, they were just kind of coexisting, but now they mimic each other. He sprawls out on the carpet, and she does the same. She jumps on my lap, and he tries to do it and just spills everything, everywhere. They’re great.”
With the way he’s gushing over his pets, he’ll definitely fit in here (and love our #furryfriendfriday slack channel).
Alright, so other than the winning dog/cat duo, if you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
“A little monkey. It would be so cool, him hanging out on my shoulder and doing people stuff. Yeah, that’d be it.”
Like…Marcel? On Friends?
Alright. Favorite animal: little monkey. Favorite movie…?
“Fight Club. I’ve seen it so many times, and every time, I notice new things. Like Tyler Durden flickering in the beginning, and little connections throughout. This is embarrassing, but one time I watched it like three or four times in a row by myself.”
Clearly, Adalberto needs to redefine embarrassing, because, if anything, a solo marathon of Fight Club just made him a bit cooler in my eyes.
Best advice you’ve received?
By the end of 2018 I want to _______?
“Start investing in stocks. I have no idea what’s going on with that stuff. I’ve started doing a lot of reading, and I still have no idea what’s going on, but I’ll get there.”
Bold goal, but with his love of learning, I’m confident he’ll figure it out. Welcome to the team, Adalberto! I can’t wait to see all the things you do here.
